Straightforward accommodation with knowledgeable and excellent staff members with most desk clerks speaking English. Incredible comfortable location, right by the bus terminal. And right by Playa Brava, two famous beaches, and the Casino.
Cramped bathroom.

Location, location, location.... The very best in punta del este!!!! Located just between both beaches (one block each), 1/2 block from the casino. One block from the Bus Terminal. Many restaurants available even though we were post season.Employees very helpful and willing to make us comfortable. Changed us to a room with a fridgerator... Would really have loved a microwave. Supermarket 3 blocks away. Breakfast continental and individually prepared and served, more available if desired. Loved the wide sidewalks and the table and chairs out front for sitting and relaxing.I Felt very safe outside even late at night. Free wifi throughout.
Very retro (1960s), needs refurbishing badly. Rugs dirty and worn. Beds hard and would benefit by having a foam pad topper. Bathroom small but complete... Had tiles missing from the shower edging. When built, they must have spent a lot of money designing and furnishing the lobby and the rooms, but nothing has been done since then. The whole place could use a good dusting and vacuuming. I would still stay here again because of the location and value... But would bring a quilted pad for the bed with me.

Review for Punta Del Este Shelton Hotel:
The hotel offers a wonderful experience with its kind and attentive staff, many of whom speak English. Be sure to choose the standard twin room that overlooks the courtyard for a lovely view. the location is fantastic, conveniently situated near Southover Grange Gardens.

Friendly staff. Family feel.
Incredibly basic, no frills. Not well maintained. Off season in Punta del Este and no one else there. No fault of the hotel really, but got a spider bite during the night. Guess it could happen many places.

One block from the bus station, which is its only positive attribute. (Also near beaches, but so are all hotels in Punta del Este.)
Without doubt the worst hotel we have experienced in the last decade of world travel. Although clean, it was essentially old and worn out. Our room was 1960s or 70s vintage with nothing updated or even replaced since that time (including the bed and bedspread). It reminded us of eastern European hotels in former communist countries, except they were low cost. Here, we paid one of the highest prices in our entire 4 week South American trip. Breakfast was also the most meager we had. Not a buffet, which is the norm, rather a serving to each person of coffee (about 1.5 cups per person in the pot), a glass of juice, two small slices of toast, a tiny croissant , one pat of butter and one of marmalade.

The hotel's location was perfect, close to the beach and main attractions. I would highly recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay.

The hotel definitely has a prime location in the city, close to the bus terminal and Old Town, providing easy access to everything you need in Punta Del Este. the hotel is conveniently located near the beach, making it easy to enjoy the sand and surf. Some rooms have a small terrace while others provide a TV with cable and daily housekeeping.
The hotel could definitely use some modern updating; some reviews describe a dated decor and run-down fittings.
